My personal disagreement with special frontends on 'cd' and 'pwd' to
track symlinks is that they are incomplete, and wind up tripping people.
Only cd and pwd know this special interpretation of '..'; other programs
do not, and this creates an irritating inconsistency, one that can trip
people up badly. Since I cannot teach all programs to treat '..' as
'strip off a level on my nominal $PWD', I would rather have no programs
do it.
