and i think that this makes sense.  that is, errors in the .esrc would skip  
execution of the rest of the .esrc and start the interactive shell.

whoops.  i just checked rc and Byron got it right.  rc doesn't exit the  
whole shell when the .rcrc contains a bug, just the .rcrc; es will return to  
this behavior in the next release.
