Es is probably the wrong thing for real system programming.  I like the
fact that it's extremely small and provides just about everything you could
ask for in a *shell*, at least as far as traditional unix shells go.

I don't want to see es become a replacement for perl, even though the
aforementioned abomination seriously needs one.  I think Olin Shiver's
Scheme Shell ("scsh"), will probably be that replacement.  It's not ready
for general release yet, and I'm still wading through the sources (which
he's asked not to be redistributed for now, though it will eventually be
ready for release).  I'll post a summary of its interesting points in a few
days when I have more time.
