Yup.  I find my sh "how should this be quoted?" worries are replaced with
"does this need a ^?" in rc and es.  Much less often, but it's there.
Of course it doesn't really matter to me whether free carets are removed
or not, because I tend to throw explicit ones in at the slightest doubt.
