Help getting es 0.84 up on HP-UX 9?

I'm having a problem trying to get es running properly on HP-UX 9.

The symptoms are that a string (only 2 needed) of `intr' characters 
(^C in this case) at the terminal will cause the shell to die.  No 
core left around to look at.  

I tried setting -DSYSV_SIGNALS, thinking that is what it was, but it
doesn't seem to have changed anything.

I'm a total neophyte wrt HPUX.  Anyone have a pointer to/for a 
quick fix, or is it time for some serious TFM reading and debugging?
