which version of solaris?  at kaleida, i was using 2.3, and was able to
pull es-0.84 from the ftp site, perhaps edit the makefile, compile it
and go.  i don't remember any serious changes.

2.3 has a significantly better compatibility library than previous
solaris versions, and i highly recommend it.  i was able to make es run
under 2.1, and that may require more fiddling with the environment
flags, as Harald noted.
