Re: a note on notations
[stuff about `foo vs `{foo}]
However, since you and Byron both think that `foo is a good idea, my
chances of getting you to drop it and only allow `{foo} and <>{foo}
(or %{foo} or ${foo} or whatever) are about as small as my chances
of getting John to compile es with readline using gcc (but perhaps
the effort is not quite so misguided).
Pity, because I quite like the visual simplicity of the `{foo} form; it
saves me actually having to think about what I'm reading. I'd much prefer
requiring that we use ${foo} at all times; I find using quotes for taking
output uninituitive. I'd like %{foo} (uniquely, no % foo, which is ugly)
for taking return value and ${foo} for taking returning stdout.
As a side note, we have about a half dozen people using es over here and
the number is about to go up as the manual emerges. How big is the user
base at the moment?
