this was covered in the rc list recently, and i suspect the same answer will
arise: no, screwing around with es's startup strategy won't happen, since it's
more a problem in rsh than in es.

i don't think so, unfortunately. i'm sad to say that i think we've played with
es, had some fun, then got back to real work, and it's gathered dust on the
shelf (or at least, the *real* features of the shell have). a shame, but true.
